History of Wilson Middle School

Wilson Middle School is named in honor of Ammie Wilson (1880–1972), a prominent

Plano resident, farmer and livestock breeder. Known locally as “Miss Ammie,” Wilson managed her family farm and became recognized for raising and showing award-winning livestock. She was also a member of the Purebred Sheep Breeders Association of Texas.

Her historic farmstead is preserved today as Plano’s Heritage Farmstead Museum, providing visitors with a glimpse into North Texas farm life and the community’s agricultural heritage.

Wilson opened in 1970 as an elementary school, initially serving students in grades 1–8. As Plano ISD and the surrounding community grew, the campus later transitioned to become Wilson Middle School.
